Construction Assistant / Estimator

Columbia Builders of CA, Inc. is looking for a construction office assistant / estimator who is self-motivated and detail oriented. We are a small company, so the daily duties and responsibilities will cross many traditional positions – such as project engineer, estimator, project manager, project administrative assistant, marketing, etc. You will be working directly with the owner of the company and senior project management. You will be involved in every aspect of running construction projects, as well as running a company.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and coordinating all aspects of estimating a project, such as creating and preparing budgetary/ conceptual estimates, emailing plans, gather subcontractor quotes, evaluating quotes, selecting which quote to use, getting material pricing, building spreadsheets, organizing binders, preparing and drafting proposals to owners and clients.
  • Once we get a project you will be involved in all aspects of project management, such as creating owner/prime contracts for new projects, creating budgets, drafting subcontracts, change order processing and coordination, meeting minutes, submittals, RFI’s.
  • Administrative duties would include gathering and tracking signed subcontracts, tracking insurances, monthly billings, owner monthly invoicing, processing subcontract change orders, scanning and uploading all documentation to the software.
  • Software upkeep and input.
  • Creating marketing forms and website development. Meeting with prospective owners and clients for new projects. Working with architects and engineers to develop professional relationships.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Some sort of previous experience in office management and/or construction management.
  • Willingness to be trained and learn.
  • Desire to work in an office, this is not a field position.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft products, such as Word, Excel, but maybe also Projects or Powerpoint.
  • Have some familiarity with any of the construction management software out there – Prolog, Procore, or other is a plus.
  • Be familiar with Bluebeam and/or Adobe products
  • Have some knowledge of reviewing construction plans
  • Be able to prioritize and organize tasks and take them to completion.
  • Work independently as well as within a team.

Details of Position:

  • Location is in Paso Robles, CA.
  • It is a full-time position.
  • Compensation is either salary or hourly, depending on the person.
  • The rate of compensation will start at $25/hour and up depending on your skill level.
  • We offer sick, vacation, and holiday pay.
  • You may join the 401k after 1 year of employment.
  • We do not offer any health insurance benefits of any kind.
